Barbara Aydlett, MS, RN, FACHE (ret)

Ms. Aydlett is serving her 7th  term (2023-2025) as a member of the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature. She previously represented the Heart of Texas Area Agency on Aging and is now representing Bexar County Area Agency on Aging as an at large member.  As a member of TSHL, she has served as secretary and chair of the Health & Human Resources Committee (2011-2015) and chair of the Elections and Credentials Committee (2015-2019). From 2019 to 2023 she served as the Deputy Speaker Pro Tem. She served on the Legislative Action Committee from 2013-2015 and on the Executive Committee from 2013 to the present.  She was given Emeritus status in TSHL in July, 2023.

During her previous 6 terms Barbara developed and implemented the TSHL Mentor Program, provided input into the revisions of the Official Documents for 2021-2023, developed an Exit Interview Questionnaire for members not returning and attended the TSHL Foundation meetings representing TSHL.  She has built good relationships with State legislators and staff.  She calls on them when TSHL issues arise and visit them at least yearly.  She has written or co-authored resolutions each term.  As a retired RN, healthcare issues have been of special interest to her. She has spoken to senior and civic associations about TSHL.

Barbara served on the HOTCOG Health & Human Services Advisory Council 2010-2022 and is the past Chair.

She is a Registered Nurse with a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration. She retired in 2010 as Administrator of Family Diagnostic Medical Center, a Rural Health Clinic in Hillsboro, Texas.  Her previous experience includes 24 years clinical and administrative positions in hospitals.  These positions included Manager, Emergency Department; Director of Quality Assurance/Risk Management; Vice President, Patient Care Services/CNO; and Administrative Director of an Outpatient Facility.

Barbara is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and a past member of the Texas Nurses Association; American Nurses Association; Texas Organization of Nurse Executives; Texas Association of Rural Health Clinics; and the Texas Hospital Association.

She was a 23 -year member of Hillsboro Lions club and has served as 3rd, 2nd, 1st, vice presidents, and President.  She was named Lion of the year for 2010-2011 and 2016-2017.  She has served Lions District 2-X3 as a Board member for the Texas Lions Camp. She received the Tom Kirkham Leadership award from her Lions District in 2017. She is currently a member of the San Antonio Founder Lions Club.  She is a past board member for CASA of Hill County and past chairman of the board for Hill Regional Hospital.  She is a past board member for the Hillsboro Main Street Program; The Nacogdoches Chamber of Commerce; The Upshur County Child Welfare Board; The Piney Woods Area Health Education Council; The Texas Rural Health Association; and the Texas Nurses Association, Governmental Affairs Committee.  She is a graduate of Leadership Nacogdoches.

Barbara is a widow and has two children, two grandchildren, and a Dachshund.
