John Johnson

A proud native of rural Upshur County, Gilmer, Texas born on, May 8, 1938, the natural child of Enna and Eddie Johnson. Enna was a Seamstress and Homemaker and Eddie was a Cook, working for the Cotton Belt Railroad [36 years] before retiring to become a full-time farmer. After high school graduation earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Prairie View A&M University. John was drafted into the United States Army and served two years achieving the rank of E5.  
John started his career in Dallas, in 1964, working as a Production Supervisor for General Motors Corporation in 1966. He was promoted to Employment Supervisor in 1972, District Manager in 1974, and National Merchandising Manager in 1981, Central Office, Detroit, Michigan. John was transferred to Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1984 as Marketing Manager. Due to family illness, he requested and was granted a transfer back to Dallas in 1987. John retired from General Motors in 2004. John has served on numerous boards and has been a member of several civic and community organizations.

John is currently serving as a member of the Dallas County Appraisal Board. The Honorable Council person Vonciel Jones Hill appointed him to the Dallas Senior Affairs Commission and re-appointed by Councilman Casey Thomas to serve an addition 5 year term.  During his tenure he was appointed Co-Chairman. He is an active supporter of the Martin Luther King Memorial.

John and his lovely wife Ella offifty plus years are members of St. Augustine Episcopal Church in Dallas, where he serves on the church Vestry. John has one son and three grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
