Perry Slagle grew up on a large farm near Canyon/Amarillo. Moved to Canyon, threw Amarillo Newspapers. Was a Cub, Boy, and Explorer Scout. Joined Texas National Guard. Graduated West Texas State University.
Became Captain in Air Defense Artillery, Guided Missiles, serving stateside and in Okinawa. Participated in Cuban Missile Crisis as a Missile officer. Received Certificate for Cold War Service. Attended many Military schools including Airborne Parachute School, later as reservist graduated Officers Advanced Artillery School, Fort Sill; US Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth. Served many Reserve and National Guard tours in Puerto Rico, Stateside, Korea, Japan, and Hawaii. 37 years, 5 months, 22 days total service.
Master’s Degree Inter American University, Puerto Rico. Attended several Universities including West Texas State University, University of Puerto Rico, University of Arizona, and Texas A&M. Retired Department of Defense (DODDS) Science and Math Teacher, living more than 27 years overseas. President Okinawa Teacher’s Union; Pacific Area Director representing all Pacific Teachers in Okinawa, Japan, Korea, and Philippines.
Member First Baptist Church Bryan; Life Member NRA; Life Member American Legion; Life Member Reserve Officers Association; Member Military Officers Association.
We have traveled on all 7 Continents, also traveled by RV stateside & overseas. SCUBA Diver & underwater photographer for decades in Puerto Rico, Okinawa, and Philippines. Coordinated the Brazos County & Bryan Senior Tax Freezes.
Perry, and wife Loretta, still travel in RV to Arizona, Mexico, and other places. Perry flies in Ultra Lites in Mexico, and flies in Balloons in Albuquerque. Family includes wife, Loretta; daughter of Korean origin; 2 granddaughters; one great-granddaughter. Perry is a current member of TSHL.
