Rea Barry was elected to the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature in March, 2022, and serves as Chair of the Health and Human Resources Committee and the Secretary of the Communications Committee, representing the West Central Texas Area Agency on Aging.   She is eager to serve alongside a dedicated group of Texas citizens who are committed to advocate for seniors in our great state and do her part to make a positive difference.

She attended Tarleton State University and majored in Business before beginning her 49 year career with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.  She retired in 2021, serving the last 23 years as the Regional Director for Community Care Services for the aged and disabled.  Her region spanned 60 counties which included the counties of the West Central Texas AAA, North Texas AAA, Permian Basin AAA and Concho Valley AAA.  She loved her profession, helping Texas seniors and the disabled remain independently in their own homes with services including attendant care, home delivered meals and emergency response.  Her earlier state experience includes Medicaid for the Elderly and Disabled, Medical Transportation and Food Stamps.

She volunteers for the Home Delivered Meals Program and serves on their board in Callahan County.  She also serves on the Baird Housing Authority Board and ResourceCare Board.  She is a member of the Baird Chamber of Commerce, the Callahan County Sheriff’s Posse, President of the ’48 Study Club and is active in her church.

She is proudly married to a Viet Nam veteran with two adult children and five grandchildren.
